Legal referral service

The Ivors Academy Legal Referral service offers Core and Professional members the opportunity to connect with industry-experienced lawyers for guidance on legal matters relating to their professional creative work.

Members can request 30-minuetes with a specialist lawyer to discuss general legal advice tailored to their situation. If further support is needed, the lawyer will discuss options to continue directly with you.

How to use this service? 

1. Understand the terms of use

To get the best out of this service, make sure you read the terms of use below before using this service.

2. Have a basic understanding of the area of your query

To make the most of your 30-minute slot, knowing basic terms and understanding your rights will save valuable time and will give you the best chance of making the most of this service.

3. Ensure you have all the materials you need

If your query involves contracts or other documentation, make sure you have all the relevant files and evidence ready. The more information you can give on initial request, the more likely the lawyer will understand your situation and decide the appropriate course of action.

Make sure you answer all the questions accurately and honestly. Give appropriate detail where necessary and make sure that you are stating clearly what your desired outcome from using this service will be.

Terms of use 

• Please allow 3-5 working days for your request to be processed plus additional time for lawyer allocation. Allocation times can vary depending on the nature of the query and lawyer availability – while time sensitivity of each query will be taken into consideration, this service may not be suitable for urgent queries.
• This service provides general legal guidance and may not be suitable for reviewing full contracts or resolving complex legal disputes.
• There is no obligation for lawyers to continue beyond the allocated 30-minutes.
• Completion of the referral form does not guarantee a consultation, as all referrals are subject to lawyer availability and capacity.
• Not all situations may be able to be resolved through this service. Members may be advised to seek independent legal support outside the scheme if necessary.
• The Ivors Academy maintains the right to discount queries due to misuse of this service from individuals.
• Each query is handled on a case-by-case basis.
